The Brief

Michael Garty, a Dundee entrepreneur, approached Fort Film about making a film for the Lochee Boys & Girls Boxing Club – a volunteer-run institution that has trained generations of local kids in boxing, and almost by accident, has become a community centre at the same time.

The club is now oversubscribed, having to turn kids away, and raising funds for a new building.

The brief was to make a film that could help raise that money.

The Approach

We leaned into what the club already had. The interior is textured and weathered in a way you can't fake — decades of use have shaped it, and the walls hold the place's history more honestly than any voiceover would.

The volunteers and the members carry the film. Our job was to make sure the room around them looked like the room it is.

The Outcome

The club has since hit its fundraising target.

Many people, many years, much harder work than ours – but we hope the film played some small part.
